The idea is to create an imaginary context where the students are cast as an expert team with a job to do – rescue an injured climber, excavate an Egyptian tomb, restore a ruined castle – which the teacher uses to create purposeful activities for curriculum study – writing reports, researching the past, drawing plans to scale.
